The Top 3 Most Helpful Health Supplements

2024 Edition (and not a Black Friday post!)

Wondering what supplements a Health Expert recommends the most? Below is a list of the top 3 I suggest most commonly for my lovely patients. Remember, everyone is different and one size doesn’t fit all, but broadly speaking these are items that I find most people need at some point. Ready for the list? Read on!

  1. Magnesium – Mag Matrix by Cyto-Matrix

One of the most popular supplements in our dispensary is the Cyto Matrix Mag Matrix LiquidThe combination of different magnesium types all in one place make it suitable for a wide range of conditions. We have used it successfully for constipation, muscle cramping (even restless legs), joint stiffness (including TMJ dysfunction), poor sleep, headaches, PMS and sugar cravings. The versatility of dosing and the great tasting formula also make it easy to give to children or those who have difficulty swallowing pills. We consistently get positive feedback from kids and adults regarding the tasty citrus flavour.

A typical dose I recommend starting with is one tablespoon before bed. In some instances, we may choose to add another tablespoon in the morning. In children, we like starting with one teaspoon at night. It often doesn’t take too long for patients to see an impact – usually within a week of consistent dosing, patients notice an improvement in their symptoms.

The reason so many people need more magnesium is because of farming soil depletion – previously magnesium rich foods no longer have the magnesium content they used to, and very few foods are fortified with magnesium due to cost (unlike calcium, which is fortified in many grain products). Magnesium is also used in over 400 different body processes(check out The Magnesium Miracle by Dr. Carolyn Dean), so our bodies go through a ton of it. We need to help make supply match demand in our bodies.

2. Adrenal Life Force by Physica Energetics

“It’s not how long you are on the planet, it’s how much baggage you carry while you are here” -Dr. Michael Borkin

In today’s accelerated society, the adrenal glands become severely overburdened by chronic stress, environmental pollutants, infections and the overuse of stimulants such as caffeine, sugar and nicotine. The body’s attempt to compensate for stress results in an increased production of cortisol from the adrenal cortex, leading to a disruption of the delicate balance of hormones required for energy and vitality.

Key factors contributing to dysregulated cortisol include:

1) Chronic Inflammation (diet is a common cause – see more on Food Sensitivities here)

2) Chronic Xenobiotic Infection

3) Poor blood sugar control & insulin resistance (now 1 out of every 2 people on the planet including children)

4) Emotional/Psychological stress, overwork, overwhelm

Eighty percent of people suffering from adrenal issues also experience symptoms of low thyroid function, such as fatigue and weight gain. As a side note, until the adrenal glands are strengthened, supplemental treatment for thyroid disorders is typically less effective.

3. Probio SAP by NFH

Probiotics are dietary microbial mixtures that beneficially affect the host (thats you!) by improving the intestinal microbial balance. Although large numbers of microbes normally inhabit the human intestine (they outnumber our own number of cells by far), certain strains of bacteria are believed to alleviate the symptoms of lactose intolerance, increase natural resistance to infectious diseases (like the common cold for example), improve digestive symptoms like diarrhea/constipation/bloating, maintain healthy cholesterol levels, reduce risk of cancer, and stimulate gastrointestinal immunity.

Those are the top 3 for 2024! If you’re wondering if you could benefit from one or more of these, please book an appointment with me if you live in Ontario. Health improvement plans aren’t just about the right product, but you have to have the right dose, time, and person to get the expected benefit. Some health products can cause side effects, so it’s important to work with someone who can minimize those for you and guide you through it.
