Do you suspect you suffer from food sensitivities? Have you heard anything about them? A lot of people seek me out for help identifying their problem foods.

Top five conditions that are either caused or worsened by food sensitivities include:

-All things skin: hives, psoriasis, eczema, acne, and even simple, unexplainable itching

-Difficulty losing weight

-Digestive disturbances: chronic bloating, belching, constipation, and/or diarrhea

-Headaches/migraines

-Joint and muscle pain

In addition, I find testing for food sensitivities to be invaluable in helping kids with developmental issues (autism, ADD/ADHD, etc.). I also see menstrual cramps and PMS improve drastically with the removal of food sensitivities. Fatigue and brain fog usually get better too. The list of conditions that it helps with is quite long.

Foods that give you problems can take hours or days after they’ve been eaten to cause a reaction, making them tricky to identify without testing.

The great news is that they’re often not permanent – by eliminating these foods for a time, the body can heal and will no longer have a negative response the next time the foods are consumed. If you work with me, you also have the option of doing a specially tailored gut-healing protocol, which I find resolves the sensitivities more quickly, meaning you can enjoy them again sooner.

My patients are always surprised by what they’re sensitive to. This is because we test for “healthy” foods like fruits, veggies, meats, and gluten-free grains, in addition to the more obviously problematic foods like wheat and dairy.

What I love most about this test is that its completely individualized, and based on your own unique immune system – namely, your circulating IgG antibodies. No two people are alike, and this is one of the fundamental concepts of Naturopathic Medicine that we use to help people heal. The way this test works is that I send you to a Lifelabs location of your choice, you have your blood drawn, and we get a report back listing your sensitivities within a week or so.

If you’re interested in food sensitivity testing, book an appointment for more info. You might also want to check with your extended health care benefits plan to see if you have coverage for naturopathic services and testing.
